The Works of Josephus
Many people have research the book, and I have been told the book is
the only one in existence. The book is the original.
The book's title is, " The Whole Genuine and Complete Works of Flavius
Josephus."
The book was printed by the authority of King George III in the year of
1776.
The book was translated by George Henry Maynard, L.L. D.
The book is illustrated with marginal references, and notes historical,
historical, biographical, classical, critical, geographical and explanatory, which is done by the Rev. Edward Kimpton, who was the Vicar of Rogate in Suffex, and the author of the complete universal history of the Holy Bible.
Also the book is embellished with 70 beautiful copper plates, which is descriptive in the most distinguished transactions related in the work, from original drawings of the ingenious Messrs, Stothard, and Corbould, members of the Royal Academy, and other eminent artistes.
Each of the 70 etchings are within the manuscript, while holding to a similar appearance and theme, are all unique and intricate in their designs, and have intrinsic value just within themselves.
The whole engraved copper plate etchings were by capital performers.
Particularly, Grignion, Collier, Heath, Tookey, Taylor, & c., all belonging to the
Royal Academy of Artist.
The 70 etchings are of, " very high quality."
The book is about 9 inches wide and about 14 1/2 inches long.
The book is bound in leather and done in block print.
The book contains;
1. The Antiquities of the Jews in twenty books; with their wars,
memorable transactions, authentic and remarkable occurrences, their
various turns of glory and misery, of prosperity and adversity, & c.
from the creation of the world.
2. The wars of the Jews with the Romans, from their commencement to the
final destruction of Jerusalem by Titus in the reign of Vespasian. In
seven books.
3. The book of Josephus against Apion, in defence of the Jewish
antiquities. In two parts.
4. the martyrdom of the Maccabees.
5. The embassy of Philo from the Jews of Alexandria of the Emperor
Caius Caligula.
6. The life of Flavius Josephus, written by himself.
7. The testimonies of Josephus concerning our Blessed Savior,
St. John the Baptist, & c. clearly vindicated.
To which is added a continuation of the history of the Jews, and from
Josephus down to the present time, including a period of more than
1700 years.
Containing an account of their dispersion into the various parts of
Europe, Asia, Africa and America, their different persecutions,
transactions, various occurrences, and present state throughout the
known world.
Also various useful indexes, particularly of the countries, cities,
towns, villages, seas, rivers, mountains, lakes, & c.
Likewise, tables of the Jewish coins, weights, measures, & c. used in
the time of the author.
With a great variety of other interesting and authentic never given in
any work of the like kind either in the english or any other language.
Also the book contains prophecies;
1. The prophesies of Noah.
2. The prophecies concerning Ishmael, the son of Abraham by his hand
maid Hagar.
3. Prophecies of Jacob and Esau the sons of Isaac.
4. Prophecies of Jacob to his posterity.
5. The Prophecies of Moses.
6. The prophecies of Jeremiah, Isaiah, Micab, Ezekiel, and other
prophets relative to the Jews.
7. Prophecies concerning the ancient city of Nineveh.
8. Prophecies concerning the city of Babylon.
9. Prophecies concerning the city of Tyre.
10. Prophecies concerning Egypt.
11. The prophecies of Daniel.
12. Daniel's vision concerning the four great empires.
13. The vision of the prophet Daniel, relative to the ram and he-goat.
14. Prophecy of Moses, concerning a prophet like himself.
This book is very rare, being printed in the year 1776.
